One of my favourite pastimes at the moment is making journal pages - and this involves lots of favourite techniques.
The image I have used is Gelato

I have used this image several times before - in ATCs

which then became part of a pocket letter...

ATCs and pocket letters are some of my favourite pieces of art... I also used this image to make one of my most favourite folds... a never ending card...

This is how it works:

But let's get back to today's make. I had prepared a very busy background in one of my art journals but then I decided I rather like the image just on black - so I turned to my black art journal.

Step One
I decided to do paper piecing and I wanted a paper that was ice-creamy. I used my Gelli plate (another favourite) with blobs of gesso and drips of alcohol ink on them. After brayering these out, I got a lovely muted pull. I put this through the printer and printed the image.

Step Two
I also printed the image on white and cut out the skull from that - using a craft knife for the eyes and nose. I distressed the edges with black soot to make sure there wouldn't be a white edge.

Step Three
The skull is now glued into my black journal.

Step Four
Next I cut out all the 'ice cream' pieces and put them in place.

Step Five
Next a bit of colouring with markers.

Step Six
With the left over background I stamped a lot of letters (with kid's foam stamps), scribbled around them with a black Micron pen and cut them out. Finally some white penwork to make a border.

Hope you will come and join us!!
