Butterfly Challenge H is for Herringbone

This is a Herringbone card and is the current theme for Mrs A's Butterfly Challenge  and I will link this card there.

I am afraid I have not managed to link to the Butterfly Challenge for some time - during the latter part of last year I lost my mojo somewhat - hopefully this is the start of a new leaf...

 Mrs A gives instructions for these here with the following associated wheel.
This is version 1.

Firstly I followed Mrs A's instructions to form the classic Herringbone pattern. I used papers from my scraps which were included the colours Heatwave, Hansa yellow and Hazel.
Amazing how the photos show up the gaps in my strips that I had not noticed in reality!

I trimmed the background slightly to size to be just smaller than a kraft card base. I added a banner and sentiment (stamped from Stampin Up Comfort and Hope set). I the added some butterflies using Stampin Up's Beautiful Wings - an old favourite!
Finally some scraps of hemp to make the larger butterfly antennae.

Lots of snippets here - I will also link this card to Pixie's Crafty Workshop Challenge #395

Crafty Hazelnut's Weekly Challenge 527 - Gnomes

a new Christmas Challenge every Saturday!

Today Crafty Hazelnut brings a new weekly Christmas Challenge
with the theme 'Gnomes'

Do pop over and see the fabulous inspiration from my teamies!

If you enter you could win a prize... and this week it is...

Enchanted Corner
Gnome outline dies & Stamp Set

The current challenge at Lost Coast Portal to Creativity is also Gnomes (Valid until the 31st January). I already entered this with this ATC:

I won this gnome stamp from LCD a while ago - I have more on my wishlist!! 23 gnome stamps and 4 gnome homes are available in real red rubber from the Lost Coast Designs store.

I decided to use the same stamp, coloured in a similar Christmassy way for today's card.

Recipe:

  1. Square white card blank.
  2. Layer of red card.
  3. Layer of white embossed card.
  4. Background layer using Distress Oxides in an embossing folder, trimmed and with Black Soot Distress Ink around the edges. Although I have many 'tree' embossing folders, this was a new one when I made this background... I will add this card to NBUS #22
  5. I stamped my gnome, coloured it with markers and cut it out, adding it to the background.
  6. I stamped the sentiment(Craftstash stamp set) and cut it into a banner adding faux stitching with a Micron pen. I added this to a red card background and glued it in place.

Another image/more penwork?

Anyway... I had tied on another pocket using artwork from
However... I hadn't decided what images to put on it or in it until I saw Nan's link to
Lots of super images there!

So here are the final pictures of my journal...

In my last post I announced that I would be giving away

The answer is 11...

Thank you all for entering! And the winner is...

What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday #608

       WOYWW

It's Wednesday again - so I am linking this post to the Stamping Ground.

This is my desk picture for WOYWW 608!

 I am in the middle of a journal page which started off as a use-up paint page. I used a Lavinia stencil with dark red paint. I picked this stencil up from a craft shop I hadn't been in before a couple of days ago. I also bought some bargain paint and a Visible Image stamp set Ahead of our Time - not used that yet. I brought this journal through from my messy area to do the sticking of sentiment and images.

~~~~~~~
One of the things that I find difficult is photographing my cards for my blog - it is either too dark or I have shadows everywhere. My husband has just made me a light box, hoping it will help!
~~~~~~~

Remember my bird string? Well, I didn't take it down with the Christmas decorations and in fact, I have just made a couple more birds...

The first one is a Masked Lapwing - which we see in the garden all the time...

The second is a Swamphen which we saw when we were out and about the other day. This bird has rather become a family joke as my daughter first read it as 'Swamfen'.

Anyway hope everyone is staying safe and keeping well...and enjoying the weather.
Here it is very hot and it is bbq time

while my brother in the UK keeps sending me photos of snow and ice...This is in a local park in Derby - flooded football fields...

Happy WOYWW !!

  1. Red card base.
  2. Background: Brushos with wax resist on embossing folder.

Prompt 3
The third prompt is Your Space. I thought CCC # 137 was perfect for my space. It is Cozy and Crafty - and where I concoct all my makes!

Recipe:
  1. Green card base.
  2. Background: Layer of wax resist background with embossing folder, white wax crayon and watercolour paint..

The fourth prompt is Doing Something New

Oh, the barnyard is busy in a regular tizzy

This is my make for the DT team of Outlawz

Sunday - Songs and Rhymes

For the month of  January our sponsor is: Sherry West Art with a prize of 2 images

The  next challenge  is to take inspiration from...

 The song "Spring, Spring, Spring" from the movie version of "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers".  Little trivia is that Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire recorded a duet to this song as well.  Below are the lyrics from Johnny Mercer's lovely and romantic song.

Oh, the barnyard is busy in a regular tizzy,
And the obvious reason is because of the season
Ma Nature's lyrical, with her yearly miracle
Spring, Spring, Spring.
All the hen-folk are hatchin'
While their men-folk are scrathin'
To ensure the survival of each brand new arrival.
Each nest is twitterin',
They're all baby-sitterin',
Spring, Spring, Spring.
It's a beehive of buddin' son and daughter life,
Every family has plans in view.
Even down in the brook the underwater life
Is forever blowin' bubbles too.
Every field wears a bonnet
With some spring daisies on it,
Even birds of a feather show their clothes off together.
Sun's gettin' shinery, to spotlight the finery,
Spring, Spring, Spring.
From his eerie, the eagle with his eagle eye
Gazes down across his eagle beak
And a'fixin' his lady with the legal eye
Screams "suppose we fix the date this week!"
Yes, siree, spring disposes
That it's all one supposes
It's a real bed of roses
Waggin' tails, rubbin' noses.
Each day is Mother's Day
The next is some other's day
When love is King

Note:  The theme doesn’t have to be taken literally.  You may use any word or phrase out of it for your project.

I used  shimmery water colours to paint the Sherry West digi.

I started with a creamy shimmery card blank using a mat of pink card.

The sentiment and scribble are from a  Stampin Up set Hey Chick, stamped in black Versafine directly onto the image.

You will find this on the Outlawz  Sunday Songs and Rhymes Challenge on January 24th.
