So September the 1st and the first day of Spring here in Victoria...even so I was thinking of Autumnal colours!!

I decided to add a page to my Mixed Media Calendar.

I don't know how the photo has come out so dark - it was in broad daylight in our hall!

The image is from

Jan's Digi Stamps

and is the Progressive Freebie Challenge image at Outlawz

I think this is the first time I have been this early in a month!!

I coloured the image with Copics, die cut September (Tim Holtz die) and then layered up the papers - all from my scraps.

And here it is on my shelf:

I will add this to Leigh's Linky

I thought I would just add a couple more photos, hopefully in better light.

LeighSBDesigns “The Summer BUZZ Blog Hop” June 11

Once again Leigh is hosting a

I am finding Leigh's hops a real inspiration during these days of lockdown...

As you know I recently moved - we have been in this house for two weeks now. I am gradually finding all the craft items that I shipped from the UK.

One of the things that came to light was my mixed media calendar and I was amused to find that in June 2016 I made this page - how appropriate is that page to this hop?

I used Brick Wall Smash and Bumblebee from Kenny K stamps (no longer trading, I believe) putting the images together using computer software.  I then printed them and tore them into a rough rectangle. I added colour using Rusty Hinge Distress Ink and Promarkers. The background is wrinkle free distress using three colours of distress ink plus Rusty Hinge around the edges.

The background is a grunge-y one that I made at the end of 2015
I don't suppose I would try this technique on my own - it's the sort of experiment my husband and chemistry teacher daughter like to play with.

The following video will give you an idea of how it's done...basically electricity is passed through a piece of plywood coated with sodium bicarbonate solution to produce burnt figures. The electricity is produced using a microwave transformer.

Here is a triptych that we have hanging on the wall made using this technique:

I decided to update the calendar for this June and I will link this to the Hop

I will link this to the SUMMER BUZZ BLOG HOP

Friday Freebie - Oddball CCC #52

I love receiving the Friday Freebie from Oddball Art Stamps!
These are available when you subscribe to the Oddball Newsletter.

Oddball Art Stamps

Watch your email for this week's image!

Today's make uses the freebie Cat Woman and two of her cats....

I was inspired by the current Oddball Challenge 'Puffy
Dusty Diamonds Twisted Circus'

I have made a page for my perpetual calendar - I make a page each month and add the new dates.
The backboard is burned plywood.

Recipe:
1. The base is a piece of thick cardboard covered with paper from 'Enjoy this Sweet Moment' 12 by 12 paper pad from The Works. I have a lot of scraps of this on my desk at the moment.
2. I added Tim Holtz Mixed Media die cut diamonds to this and distressed with Peacock Feathers.
3. I printedthe images, coloured with Copics and cut then out with curly diamont nesting dies, again distressed with Peacock Feathers.
4. Finally I added some of the diamond confetti from the die cutting.

I am sure you will enjoy using this week's image - and don't forget to enter the Challenge!

I will be sharing my first day's Halloween make on Leigh's page....

~~~~~~~~
So....can you believe it is already October? Where has this year gone?
I have just turned over September on my mixed media calendar, ready for the next page...
I decided the October page would be my Day 1 of 31DOH - as usual I am going to try to post something every day.
Last October I spent much of the month in Australia so I was really organised - finishing my Halloween make on the flight over!! I then only had to blog while I was away.
This year, October has crept up on me and I am not so ready - but I will still have some spot prizes and the chance to win some of my makes -
 keep watching (and commenting each day) to find out more!
My first SPOT PRIZE however - email the answer to susanrenshaw0404@gmail.com before midnight October 5th -
What did I make as my main 31DOH project last year?
~~~~~~~

I have been making my mixed media calendar for some years now, sometimes recycling the previous year's flip card, sometimes making a new one.

Last year my October looked like this:

In 2016 it looked like this:

This was the flip page:

This year I decided to use some marbled backgrounds, trimming the first just smaller than the orange base. I embossed the shattered image in black embossing powder (Visible Image How Fragile) and die cut October from it (Tim Holtz die).

I embossed the same image on an ATC sized piece of another marbled background and mounted this on orange too. As usual you will see lots of ATCs in my 31DOH!

Find Leigh's page here

During the day I have come across three more sites doing 31DOH so I will link this first make to them...

Dream in Darkness - because this is the BEST MONTH OF THE YEAR

Lost Coast Portal Challenge #62 - I have used a clear stamp

and

Stampendous - just for fun...

Happy Little Stampers Mixed Media July Challenge

Our winner for this challenge will receive a $20 coupon to spend at the shop! Check out all the details HERE.

IF YOU USE STAMPS BY HAPPY LITTLE STAMPERS AND YOU ARE OUR RANDOM WINNER, YOUR PRIZE WILL BE DOUBLED!

I have added a month to my Mixed Media Calendar.
I have been making this for a several years now...
The base is a piece of plywood 'burned' with electricity
 as detailed here in my blog in November 2015.
I painted around the edge with black gesso.

I added square cards using rings at the top.
These cards will flip over for successive months.
I added a calendar pad at the bottom.

For this July my card has a circle of newspaper pieces.
I was inspired by some artwork by Jiri Kolar that I saw in the Prague National Gallery, which I visited a fortnight ago when I was on holiday in Prague.

I arranged circles of circular pieces cut from a newspaper and then covered them with a border of yellow card which had had a circle die cut from it.

On this circle I placed a rectangle of purple - on this I added an oval of yellow from which I had cut July - a Tim Holtz die.

Finally I added the man with umbrella (Tim Holtz die) and the sun - an unbranded die.

Hope you will join the challenge!!

Happy Crafting!

A Year of ATCs? Day 77

This is my 77th make for A year of ATCs?

I started with a 2.5 by 3.5 inches rectangle of green card.
I made another background using Ken Oliver Color Burst water colours
- sprinkling some powders on watercolour paper and then spritzing with water -
and added this to the green card.

I used the Dragons Lair image March Winds, coloured with Zig real brush pens, cut out with a stitched die and then added to the green card.
Finally I added a dragonfly embellishment with red ribbon.

This Color Burst background has been my background of choice this month,
 so I decided to use it on my March Mixed Media calendar, matted on green card.

I added the March dates with this ATC and the Dragons Lair one I made earlier:

Mixed Media Calendar - February

Today I am showing you the February page of my Mixed Media calendar!

What with one thing and another, I haven't made my usual Dragons Lair calendar
so this is a Dragons Lair page on my Mixed Media Calendar - I made the base at the beginning of last year - today I am showing you the two additions for February:

I have used a paper and elements from Pretty in Pink,
 printing the elements and cutting them out.

And by the way do look for the current Challenge Blog Challenge - Hearts a Flutter

Happy Crafting!

Why not visit some of the other areas in the Dragons Lair Designs family of sites?

Find more details here

I was very pleased to be the winner last year - see my last years posts by scrolling down here

My new make last year was this:

 I now have a second make to show you  for 2017...
Each month last year I added to my mixed media calendar, the base of which was a burnt piece of plywood as is the frame to the above. However I left this one unvarnished.

To continue this year I decided to make January a Poe page...

For the two sections I used Smeared Ink stamps with black Stazon stamped over the DP - the pinkish one is a Tim Holtz paper, the orangey one is from a Graphic 45 paper pad.

LOC Challenge #156

Challenge #156 starts today at LOC  "Inspired By..."

Our sponsor is Alicia Bel

 My make is Inspired By...Alice in Wonderland.
I am using Tweedledum and Tweedledee (which I don't believe is available any more) on my mixed media calendar.

More details of this calendar can be found in previous posts.

The background is yellow then blue card then a square of DP which is from an Alice collection from CraftsUPrint.
I then added the image coloured with Promarkers and cut out.
The month is a stamp from Inkadinkadoo printed with Versafine on yellow
 and matted on blue.

 Looking forward to seeing your makes in the LOC challenge!
