LOC #34: Rick St Dennis - Something metal

Challenge #34 at LOC is to use something metal and is sponsored by Rick St Dennis.

LOC #33 was "Favourite Films" and I had Johnny Depp on my mind...
now...well not quite Captain Jack Sparrow...

I used  Captain Jacqueline Starling from Rick St Dennis
for this example - with a few things metal...

First I cut a stepper card - just like in an earlier LOC DT inspiration

I then matted this with some beautiful textured paper that I found in a local market.
I coloured the image with Promarkers and matted it on 'Kraft' cardstock. I used the same cardstock to mat the words (printed on my computer) and stamp some flourishes
which I cut out and added here and there.
Finally embellishments - metal, wood and a skull...

Hope you will join us at LOC

Delicious Doodles GDT in June #4

The challenge at Delicious Doodles this week is 'Buttons and Bows'

The image I used is DD's A Slice of Cake and also the DD Freebie It's Party Time

I started with a handmade paper card blank
(so much handmade paper and card is available here in India).
I printed both images on very pale blue textured cardstock, cut them out and matted them onto a darker blue. Colour was added using gold Promarker - and a little blue.
Then buttons and bows!!

Imagine That! Progressive Challenge

Each month I like to have a go at the Imagine That! Challenge.

In this everyone is a winner, because if you participate you get the next month's image!

June's freebie was a whole set of 'Poolside Penguins'.

I find Kris's images particularly good for kid's cards...

For this card I printed out the penguin and beachball, coloured -
although I could have used my Promarkers on the uncoloured version.
I then cut out the penguin.
I also printed two of the sentiments and trimmed them.

I decided to make my card an easel -
with a square card blank, I just scored an additional diagonal fold across the front.

I used papers from an American Crafts 'My Girl' Paper pad to mat the front and inside.
I then layered up the penguin and the sentiments,
the inside one on dimensionals to make the easel stand.
A very quick and easy card!

Fusion & CAS(E) this sketch

I was attempting to do some DT cards and getting nowhere fast -
I set off on my travels in less than a week and I need to be organised for July and August at least...

Anyway I came across this sketch

CAS(E) this sketch and Fusion together!!

I still had a few butterflies on my table from yesterday!
I started with a cream deckle edge card blank and added a banner cut from a scrap.
I added a butterfly and a tag (from Layered Tags, Bits, Amy Tangerine Sketchbook)
 and some extra twine...

I will link this to both blogs!

Delicious Doodles GDT in June #3

The challenge at Delicious Doodles this week is 'Make a scene'

This picture reminds me so much of Red Wharfe Bay on Anglesey...

I decided to go with black and white with a touch of colour -
just using yellow and green Promarkers on the image.
I started with a white card blank and then used strips of card from my scraps to form the base layers.
I used an edge punch to make the lacy borders.
The sentiment is 'peel off's - a freebie from Little Claire.

Just another quick card...

I noticed this Sketch at CAS(E) this Sketch

so I thought I would give it a go...

These butterflies are a bit of a signature element of mine -
die cut from SU's Beautiful Wings and tied together with twine.

Another favourite is masking an area of my card blank with two edges of torn paper and applying distress ink in the gap - here I used spiced marmalade, wild honey and tea dye and a white card blank.
(The photo is not brilliant - the light in my craft room is not very good at this time of night!)

I overstamped with Versafine - the oval is from Blue Moon Creation Stamps

and the sentiment is a freebie from 'Get Stamping' Magazine.

I will link this to Cas(e) this Sketch 80

...and it made an Honorable Mention!

Playing

While I was in Abu Dhabi, I really enjoyed running my card making class...
I am just beginning to share techniques and show people how to make simple cards here!

Last week I showed Wendy how to use my Big Shot using a thin die to make an owl card -
 you may remember my ATC:

And My set of owls arrived in the UK:

Yesterday I showed Ritu a few techniques:
  1. Brushless watercolour.
  2. Watercolouring a stamped image.
  3. Wrinkle free distress.
In each case we used Distress inks in a variety of colours.

Here an Inkadinkadoo stamp is inked up and then misted with water.
It is stamped onto watercolour paper.
I will submit this card to Panpastels as I would love to win some gorgeous stash!

Distress ink was smeared onto the non-stick mat and spritzed with water. It was then used as paint with a brush. The image (freebie from Get Stamping! magazine)
was stamped with Versafine onto watercolour paper.

Finally the excess ink was blotted onto cardstock for use as a background in a future project.

LOC #33: Ikes Art and The Stamping Chef - favourite Films

Well...I have just been thinking about Johnny Depp all afternoon...

My image from Ike's Art is Hatter!

I don't know what came first - my colouring the Hatter in my golds, oranges and pink Promarkers or seeing this sketch and colour combo from Fusion...

Anyway I decided to use the sketch from Fusion - a few pieces of paper from my scraps to matt and layer on a handmade paper orange card blank.
In my folder of images to be coloured  I came across the teacups...I used the same Promarkers...
and added a flower...

Hope you will join us at LOC - favourite films!

I will also link this to Fusion...

Delicious Doodles GDT in June

The challenge at Delicious Doodles this week is 'Stitch It!'

I used faux stitching around the pink cardstock mats using a fine ruby red Promarker
and the leaves are some SU stitched embellishments.

My inspiration was working in the garden in June... with twine and flowers...and worms!
The Shakespeare quotation 'The smallest worm will turn, being trodden on' came to mind
and I used the letters of June from DD's Creepy Alpha's,
coloured with various red and pink Promarkers.

Happy Crafting!!

More Owl ATCs

Recently I was very fortunate to win several images from Fresh Brewed Designs!
Two that I chose featured owls...

Very handy for the UK ATC Swap on facebook!

Plus this week's challenge at Wicked Wednesday is black and white and one other colour.

This is what I came up with:

Each card starts with a layer of orange 'foam'.
The images and sentiments are matted onto shiny handmade orange cardstock.

I used bright orange Promarker for the colouring
- and then a couple of orange embellishments!

Last month's theme at UK ATC Swap was black and white plus one colour...
I was very pleased to see my set had arrived in the post!

June Smeared and Smudged Blog Hop

June Monthly Member Blog Hop

You should have arrived here on the June Smeared and Smudged Members' Blog Hop -
you will find the hop order above...

The challenge was  ALTER A FOUND OBJECT.

No cards or scrapbook pages allowed, the item must be 3-D and must have started out as something you found at a thrift store, on the side of the road, in the back of your closet, etc.

Well, this little gift box has been kicking around my craft room for a couple of years - when my friend Nancy, another expat, was leaving Abu Dhabi, she had several things to 'dispose of' !
This was one...

I decided I would embellish it!

I started with a Dragonslair digi the frame of which linked to the shape of the box
"Happy and you know it"

I then printed out words from the song and images of hands and feet Smeared Ink images on turquoise blue textured cardstock.

This gave me the two sides and ends:

That left me with the top:

I then found a skull, drawn by my Teamie at LOC, the lovely Lisa Tyrell
which I printed three times in different colours so I could paper-piece the rose together.
By the way Lisa has some June Blog Candy here!!

I then added flowers and ribbon...I have been singing the song all day!

Next you should go to Anna

A few more Christmas cards, a few more sketches!

In July I will start designing for Sketch~N~Scrap - I can't wait!!

But in the meantime here are three more Christmas cards with the sketches I based them on...
once again I have used an 'ATC' as the feature.
I make many of these and my friends often ask what I do with them...
well I keep them in my collection - sometimes I can find a use for them!!
The cards are all basically matted and layered with papers from my scraps'
This first sketch is from Freshly made Sketches #140

and here is my take on it:

My second sketch is from Sketch N Stash #141

My interpretation uses brand new lace from Crawford market - and everything else from my stash!!
The ATC was an attempt at using postage stamps in a 'decopatch' way.

I will link this card to Fresh Brewed Flowers and Lace

My final sketch today is from Seize the Sketch #22

Here I have added a strip of Washi tape for the horizontal line

I will also link this to
