Here's my 'desk shot' for today...
I am just upcycling that old chair cover to make the cover of a junk journal, containing varios folded papers - but not a lot else to share today!!
I have finished my Halloween journal but will share a (slower) flip through next week.
I did the next of Carolyn Dube's starter prompts (muddy).
Yesterday we went to confirm the colour choices for our house - still waiting for the build start date...
The block is getting quite weedy:
Then we went for a walk around the Australian garden and saw this:
And I have started putting up Halloween decorations...
But this year I have had to BUY a pumpkin...

Funny, isn't it, that I bet not too many WOYWW visitors will even blink at the thought of using a chair cover to make a journal cover. And ah yes...the joy of making al those selections, then the long wait for the house to emerge from the building site.

ReplyDeleteWe don't really do Halloween here now. WE did when the girls were little but not many played a long back then. and of course the last couple of years no one did it! Watched the 2018 Halloween film in the week, with Jamie Lee Curtis now a crazied mother, grandmother, out to get Michael Myers...I think she got him this time!

ReplyDeleteI’ve grown squashes and pumpkins in the past but they take up so much room! So I buy them occasionally as and when I need them nowadays. Love the use of the chair cover, good bit of repurposing there!

Pumpkins are quite a recent thing in the UK but have become very popular and we see fields full of them round where we live though we do live in a very agricultural area so it's to be expected I guess. I have no idea what they taste like. Love your idea for reusing the chair cover, great idea. Wishing you a very happy and creative woyww, Angela x15x
ReplyDeleteI bought a pumpkin - very tiny one! It will go on my window sill with my other halloween collection. Our shops are full of them and lots of scary stuff too. It is only just getting popular here as you must know. We even stopped buying sweets for the trick or treaters as they don't come these days - guess with Covid most have decided it is too big a risk.

That's great fabric for a journal cover and an inspired bit of upcycling. I love the muddy piece - gorgeous colours. I wasn't keen on your garden visitor, do you know if it was poisonous or not?
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great Halloween, we don't do it now the kids in the family have got older but I used to enjoy decorating the house for them - now I just stick to autumn decoration rather than spooky!

Yikes for the snake - mind you we had one here in the garden back in the summer - an adder no less - my husband accidentally went over it with the ride-on mower and didn't even notice it until later - it wasn't a pretty sight! How exciting to be choosing colours for your new house yet to be built - that way you can have exactly what you want. Although I would be so indecisive! Sometimes it's easier to get stuck with other people's choices LOL. Loving the prompt page and look forward to that journal flip! Have a lovely week! xx zsuzsa #18
ReplyDeleteFun post, He grew pumpkins this year but they all disintegrated after picking So he purchased the 2 at a new pumpkin farm and we have been enjoying them. I reuse a LOT of fabric items for my crafting which are waiting to be completed. Enjoy a great week .
ReplyDeleteI've never tried pumpkin, there are so many different varieties around too,. there are a few houses that are putting some out ready for Halloween here but it's not a very big thing here. Have a good week Helen #3
ReplyDeleteI eat a lot of butternut squash but haven't tried pumpkin. Exciting to see the snake and well done capturing it on video! Was it a poisonous one? I know there are a lot in Australia, but here we only have one - the adder. I saw one in my sister's garden last year. I love the idea of using the chair cover for a journal cover! Recycling and finding alternative uses for things is always pleasing. I don't think your page looks muddy - I think it's great!

ReplyDeleteWell, the way my other comment posted, I think I must have done something to prevent my original comment posting! So the comment about the house is a pre PS! Lordy that snake SUsan…at least he was keen to get away, that’s the best sort isn’t it! Like your take on the CD prompt, cute image in the middle. Have fun with the pumpkin, I’ve found that commercially grown aren’t great for eating, but I do love a roasted pumpkin soup…yum. Getting darker afternoons here now, certainly been lucky with the longevity of mild weather, but soup season approaches!

Love the fabric to use as cover for your junk journal. I hope you remember the color choices you made when the house is finished, will it take long? When do they start? In Holland we don't celebrate Halloween as a tradition but the stuff (orange, pumpkins, skulls etc.) is been seen more and more.. I thought they only celebrate it in the USA but it's a tradition in Australia too? Love from Holland, Marit #19

yes pumpkins have really become quite big in the uk over the past few years. When I was a kid we used to carve swedes, they are VERY hard and small (therefore fiddly and NOT easy to carve) so I totally get why pumpkins have become the go to carving medium.

Oh good fabric from the chair cushion, that will work great for your junk journal. It must be really exciting to build and choose everything fresh and new. I only buy pumpkins to eat yum yum Happy belated WOYWW! October was a busy month, still catching up. Elle #6 this week
